Tomintoul 36 Year Old 1976 Limited Edition Speyside Single Malt Scotch Whisky (2013) 70cl

This magnificent Tomintoul single malt was distilled in 1976 and aged for over 30 years, before being bottled in 2007 at 40%. The expression was awarded a Gold Medal at the prestigious International Spirits Challenge of 2008, as well as at the International Wine & Spirits Competition. Tomintoul 1976 Vintage reveals a depth and complexity that can only be achieved by a maturation of over three decades in the finest oak casks. The nose is elegant and fresh, with aromas of rum-soaked raisins, exotic fruits, vanilla and oak spices. The palate is round and soft with sweet fruit, citrus, gingerbread, coconut, oak and hot spices, leading to a warm and lingering finish with hints of fruit, spices and vanilla.

1976 was an exceptional year of record breaking sunshine and high temperatures. The Tomintoul 1976 distillation made use of the finest malted barley from an exceptional harvest. "Now, after silently maturing for over 30 restful years I have nosed and tasted every cask from the outstanding 1976 vintage and I consider this bottling to be a very special jewel. I hope you enjoy this remarkable 'gentle dram'." Master Distiller Robert Fleming.

Tasting Notes

Nose : Orange sherbet, strawberries, lime, brioche, fresh rose. A very subtle touch of coastal air - not much, but just enough to notice.

Palate : A soft, elegant whisky that boasts a palate packing juicy peach, watermelon and a hint of banana. Buttery malt develops.

Finish : A slight prickle of baking spice underneath more creamy stone fruit notes.
