Independent Bottlers.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf it were not for the internet, we would have never seen some of these glorious examples of single cask from closed distilleries like Cambus owned by Diageo.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe Cambus distillery was founded near Alloa in 1806 by John Moubray. It was run as a family business for most of the 19th century, passing down to John’s son (James) and grandson. (Robert) It operated as a small plant until 1836 when Moubray took a change of direction, installing two Stein patent stills to distil grain whisky instead.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe expansion cemented Cambus as one of the largest grain distilleries in Scotland. Its buildings were spread over eight acres and railway sidings were built up to each warehouse. The distillery was closed down in 1993 as part of Diageo’s £100m production reorganisation. Its plant was removed and the site transformed into a cask filling operation and warehouses.
